Once known primarily as an agricultural community, the town of Windsor evolved into a central location for Northern Colorado residents as well as a hub for Colorado’s “new energy” economy when Vestas, a Danish wind turbine company, selected Windsor as its first Colorado plant location.
Although the community has rapidly expanded over recent years, Windsor maintains a small town atmosphere with its quaint downtown area that offers fine dining, social coffee shops and boutique shopping. The town’s community calendar outlines a variety activities from summer concert series’ to Farmers Markets, and youth and adult fitness classes for Windsor residents of all ages to enjoy. Windsor serves as the headquarters for the Weld RE-4 Windsor/Severance School District. This district operates five elementary schools, two middle schools, including Severance Middle School, and Windsor High School. With its central location in Northern Colorado, Windsor has access to several higher education options including the University of Northern Colorado and Aims Community College in Greeley as well as Colorado State University and Front Range Community College in Fort Collins.
The town of Windsor does not lack in activities available for its residents. Windsor boasts three championship golf courses, an indoor ice rink and soccer complex, a beautiful outdoor pool in its city park, two indoor in-line skating/hockey rinks, water skiing on Windsor Reservoir and easy access to the Poudre River Trail that provide outdoor recreational opportunities for residents. In terms of arts and culture, Windsor offers several downtown activities including art exhibitions, movies in the park, and car shows for residents of all ages to enjoy. To top it all off, Windsor boasts million-dollar views of Longs Peak and the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
Banner Health’s Medical Arts Centre of Windsor provides care for the community. It is affiliated with North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and McKee Medical Center in Loveland. University of Colorado Health and Colorado Health Medical Group have primary care doctors at the Windsor Medical Clinic. University of Colorado Health has hospitals in Fort Collins, Loveland and Children’s Hospital in Denver. Quality specialists in virtually all areas are available within a short drive.
Major employers in Windsor include Vestas, Tenneco Packaging, CareStream, Universal Forest Products, Front Range Energy, Owens-Illinois and Metal Container Corporation, the latter two which supply the nearby Anheuser-Busch brewery with bottles and cans.
